In this paper, a method for compensation of torque ripples in permanent magnet synchronous machines is presented. The motivation is to reduce torque-ripple-induced vibration and acoustic noise. Since the torque ripples are predominant in the field weakening range the focus is to set up a compensation method in high-speed ranges. Based on the modeled torque ripple effects, an optimized control strategy is developed to realize a precise harmonic voltage excitation. Furthermore, the limiting factor of the available voltage in the field weakening range is considered and an extended control strategy is introduced to allow a compensation of torque ripples close to the voltage limit.
