Transient disturbances in the electrical system of an electric ship can come from multiple sources, and may have complex interactions. The use of wavelet transforms may provide an improved method of detection for non-continuous electrical events, but wavelet transforms can be limited in their real-time application. This paper describes the implementation of a real-time wavelet transform in parallel on an FPGA, with a coupled electric ship simulation on a Real-Time Digital Simulator, for the purpose of transient disturbance recognition.
