This paper firstly describes the control strategies for the hybrid electric public bus and the development of hybrid propulsion control system. Based on the designed efficiency-first and torque-balancing control strategy, the hybrid propulsion control system has been designed and all the working modes of the hybrid electric bus are tested. Finally, experiments are carried out and verify that the control strategy is feasible and reliable. The test results show that the hybrid electric bus can save the fuel consumption about 19.1 percent in comparison with the conventional public bus.
