This article presents input parallel output series (IPOS) bridge-less power factor correction (BL-PFC) non-isolated Cuk converter fed brush-less DC motor (BLDCM) drive. The proposed IPOS BL-PFC Cuk converter is theoretically analyzed and designed for BLDCM drive. Subsequently, voltage follower mode control technique has been implemented for converter to obtain variable output voltage for motor speed control. Also this control ensures unity power factor operation and require only one sensor for converter control. Selection of converter inductors and capacitors are made on the basis of continuous input current and discontinuous output current to have zero current switching of converter devices. Further, BLDCM is operated at fixed frequency fundamental switching signals obtained from hall position sensors to avoid switching losses during high frequency variable switching of BLDCM inverter. Lastly, BLDC drive performance under steady-state and dynamic situations is observed using MATLAB/Simulink software to check IPOS BL-PFC based BLDCM drive applicability in household applications.
