A development of lane detection system (LDS) is presented to assist the driver to keep the vehicle in the lane. This development concerns the LDS software. It is done by implementing an image-processing technique known as the Canny method. The Canny method is to detect lines on the road as the lane borders, by extracting image data. The development includes several steps: preprocessing, image segmentation, edge detection, filtering, Hough transformation, and linear regression. A single still image is used as the basis in developing the LDS. There after, the performance of LDS is evaluated through a simulation to detect the lane using a driving video. The result shows that the LDS was able to detect the road lane along the vehicle movement.
