Recently, in a paper published in IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, the authors proposed a genetic algorithm-based solution approach to the transit coordination problem using integer-ratio headways. This note provides more accurate mathematical formulations of the cost components of the objective functions considered in the transit coordination optimization, to improve precision in evaluating the cost effectiveness of the coordinated transit timetable design. In addition, this note discusses a new cost component and some feasible, real-time, operational control strategies and tactics that can be used to achieve better transit transfer synchronization.
