The low cruising range of full electric vehicles retards the triumph of electric mobility. An optimal braking energy recovery can help to enlarge the range. For this paper, the recuperation energy of a currently available electric car is measured during brake applications with different deceleration values and for several states of charge of the traction battery. The test results are analysed to give a reference point for future research and therefore to present the potential for optimization in the field of recuperation in electric vehicles.
