The rapid growth of electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy sources (RES) such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems has led to an increasing interest in integrating these technologies for sustainable transportation. This paper presents a 10 kW Solar PV-assisted EV charging architecture with vehicle-to-grid support. A Dual Active Bridge (DAB) isolated converter with a high power density and simple phase control is employed for EV battery charging. The bidirectional power flow facilitates EV battery charging/discharging based on EV power availability and grid requirements, respectively. A battery reference current-based proportional-integral controller is presented for the above operation. The conventional perturb and observe maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method generates an appropriate switching pattern for the DC-DC boost converter connected to solar PV panels. MATLAB/Simulink environment is used to simulate the model and to validate the system performance.
