The Grand and White Lakes area covers approximately 2,000 square miles in southwest Louisiana and is rich in natural resources: oil, gas, fish, shrimp, wildlife, and fowl. Groups with widely divergent interests - farmers, cattlemen, fishermen, shrimpers, hunters, trappers, navigation interests, and wildlife interests - all use the area. Each of these groups has different and often conflicting water use requirements. The Corps' concern is to select a water management plan that will make the greatest contribution to the national economic development consistent with protecting the environment. The study documents the data collected for use in development and verification of numerical models to predict effects of several alternative plans on water levels, circulation, and salinity intrusion in the Grand and White Lakes area. The report presents representative results of the data collection program in this area from November 1986 through December 1987 and describes the equipment and procedures used in the data acquisition.
