This report describes the wave tank tests and field performance of a single layer of large armor stone used as a protective overlay on underdesigned riprap. The resistance of the overlay to wave attack was determined by small-scale model and prototype-scale wave tank tests at CERC. A stone overlay concept was successfully used to repair a damaged riprap revetment on Oahe Reservoir, South Dakota (App. A) . Design information and an example problem (App. B) are presented to demonstrate application of the overlay concept to 9oth revetment repair and original construction.
