High power diode lasers are getting more popular not only for pumping applications but also for direct material processing. Even though laser sources like fiber lasers and disc lasers still offer comparably high beam quality, diode laser systems benefit from very high efficiency, compactness and robustness. In addition, high power diode lasers are commercially available in a wavelength range from 800 to 1940 nm. Thus, these laser sources are well suited for applications which demand high output power or comparably low beam quality. Three of these applications will be presented in this paper.
