A brake system of a vehicle, having an electro-pneumatic parking brake installation with a parking brake module and a parking brake function, an electro-pneumatic service brake installation with at least one electro-pneumatic service brake circuit, and a redundant parking brake function implemented in a controller. The redundant parking brake function is configured so that, upon recognizing the standstill of the vehicle and upon recognizing a fault or a defect in the parking brake circuit that causes the non-energized state of the parking brake module, it optionally actuates a first solenoid valve installation so as to apply, or keep in an applied state, at least one first service brake cylinder, and optionally simultaneously or thereafter actuates a second solenoid valve installation so as to direct compressed air into the second service brake cylinder.
