A mask for use in navigation in a real world underwater environment includes a head support structure, a lens that is supported on the head support structure and is sufficiently transparent to allow the user to see therethrough into underwater environment, and a system is structured and configured to (1) capture one or more images of one or more visual features from the real world underwater environment; (2) identify the one or more visual features from the real world underwater environment using the one or more captured images; (3) calculate a path through the real world underwater environment based upon the one or more identified features from the real world underwater environment; and (4) project the calculated path onto the lens so as to overlay the actual features of the real underwater environment to provide a visual navigation to the user in the underwater environment.
