A hybrid electric vehicle, an electricity generation method and apparatus therefor, and a vehicle controller are provided. The method includes: obtaining position information of the hybrid electric vehicle, proportions of different vehicle speed ranges within preset time, and proportions of different gradient ranges of a road on which the hybrid electric vehicle is located within the preset time; determining a current operating condition of the hybrid electric vehicle according to the position information, the proportions of different vehicle speed ranges, and the proportions of different gradient ranges; obtaining corresponding target electricity generation power according to the operating condition; and controlling the hybrid electric vehicle to generate electricity according to the target electricity generation power.
