Particular embodiments may provide a control system for a vehicle, which may include and memory coupled to the processors. The memory may include instructions executable by the processor. The processors may be operable when executing the instructions to receive signals from a mobile device which may be associated with a user and may also be wirelessly connected to the vehicle. The signals may be received by sensors of the vehicle. The processors may be further operable when executing instructions to identify a lighting mode for illuminating an area associated with a device location. The processors may be further operable when executing instructions to determine illumination fields and lighting properties based on the lighting mode and the device location. The processors may be further operable when executing instructions to control operation of lights of the vehicle in accordance with the illumination fields and the lighting properties.
