A method for a battery charger circuit of a vehicle includes measuring a first voltage value on a first side of a relay that is connected to an incoming alternating current source. The method also includes measuring a second voltage value on a second side of the relay that is connected to the battery charger circuit. The method also includes determining whether a difference between the first voltage value and the second voltage value is greater than a threshold. The method also includes, in response to a determination that the difference between the first voltage value and the second voltage value is greater than the threshold, charging one or more capacitors on the second side of the relay.
