A monitoring device detects the existence or absence of a situation in which another vehicle is not present in the periphery of the vehicle. If the monitoring device detects the existence of a situation in which another vehicle is not present, the monitoring device transmits, to each of multiple detection devices that are respectively provided in the tires of the vehicle, a request signal that requests the sensor ID of the detection device. The monitoring device receives the sensor IDs that are transmitted by the detection devices in accordance with the request signals, and stores the received sensor IDs in a sensor ID table.
