A communication system comprises a distance calculator configured to sense objects approaching from the rear and or sides of a moving body. Particularly, the communication system is able to indicate that an object may be too close and/or approaching the moving body at an unsafe speed and/or an unsafe closure rate. In response the communication system is able to generate a response. For example, in some embodiments, the response is an external indicator that the object is too close and/or approaching the moving body. Alternatively, or in conjunction, the communication system is able to generate a warning to the moving body that an object is approaching. The warning is able to alert the moving body that the object is in the area and/or may be approaching the moving body.
