A gasket seal that has particular application for hermetically sealing a helium gas-tight joint for a cryogenic application on a spacecraft. The gasket seal is made of a metal, such as titanium, vanadium, zirconium, erbium or alloys thereof, and/or has an elastic modulus in the range of 0.5-0.7 relative to stainless steel and a coefficient of thermal expansion in the range of 0.5-0.8 relative to stainless steel.
