Methods and systems are provided for purging uncombusted fuel and exhaust from a vehicle engine to a fuel vapor canister. In one example, during a first condition, an electric motor is operated to rotate the vehicle engine in a reverse direction, and purging contents of one or more engine cylinders to the fuel vapor canister. In this way, fresh air is drawn through an engine exhaust, forcing hydrocarbons to the fuel vapor canister, and reducing potential bleed emissions.
