An apparatus and method are disclosed for enabling work on at least one aircraft or vehicle component, such as a tire. A work surface provides a platform for operators to service tires, including aircraft tires. The work surface includes depressions and guardrails to guide and secure the tires in a desired location along the work surface. A load portion, such as a ramp, facilitates loading/unloading of the tires onto the work surface. At least one column portion supports the work surface, and raises and lowers. A motor powers a screw jack which actuates the column portion. A cable support carries wires and cables to and from the apparatus. A buffer strip goes around the bottom of the beam, and acts to detect proximity to the mount surface. A tool tray and keyhole slots hold tools around the work surface. Power outlets on the work surface provide power.
