The present embodiment relates to a method and a device for detecting an internal short circuit of a battery. More specifically, the present invention relates to a technology capable of accurately detecting the internal short circuit of a battery cell using only voltage data of the battery cell. The method for detecting the internal short circuit of the battery of the present invention comprises the following steps of: determining whether a first battery module is abnormal; electrically disconnecting the first battery module from a load or a charging device; obtaining a first open circuit voltage value of each of the plurality of battery cells; obtaining a second open circuit voltage value of each of the plurality of battery cells; and determining whether there is the internal short circuit of each of the plurality of battery cells.
