The present invention relates to a noise-responsive virtual engine sound generation apparatus, which differentiates a volume of a virtual engine sound according to a surrounding environment in an eco-friendly vehicle and promotes safety by notifying a pedestrian of the approach of the vehicle efficiently even in a noisy environment, and a method thereof. According to the present invention, in a virtual engine sound system, a noise around the vehicle is measured, and the measured noise is averaged in a certain unit. In addition, an ambient noise environment is determined based on an average value, and a virtual engine sound level is variably generated according to the determined ambient noise environment. Therefore, the pedestrian can effectively recognize a warning sound generated when the vehicle approaches regardless of the surrounding noise by changing the volume of the virtual engine sound which is variable in real time in response to the surrounding noise. The noise-responsive virtual engine sound generation apparatus of the present invention comprises: a noise measuring unit; the virtual engine sound system; and a virtual engine sound output unit.

    친환경 차량에서 주변 환경에 따라 가상 엔진음의 크기를 차별화하여 소음이 큰 환경에서도 보행자에게 효율적으로 차량 접근을 알려 안전을 도모하도록 한 소음 반응형 가상 엔진음 발생장치 및 방법에 관한 것으로서, 가상 엔진 사운드 시스템에서 차량 주변의 소음을 측정하고, 측정한 소음을 일정 단위로 평균화하고, 평균값을 기초로 주변 소음 환경을 판단하며, 판단한 주변 소음 환경에 따라 가상 엔진음의 레벨을 가변하여 발생함으로써, 보행자는 주변 소음에 따라 실시간 반응하여 가변되는 가상 엔진음의 크기 변화로 주변 소음과는 무관하게 차량이 접근하는 경고음을 효과적으로 인지할 수 있게 되는 것이다.
