The present invention relates to a brake lamp for a vehicle and a control method thereof which controls a brake lamp such that the color and light position of the brake lamp change and brightness thereof gradually increases or rapidly flickers in accordance with changes in the amount of pressure applied to a brake pedal and the speed of a vehicle, thereby enabling a driver of a following vehicle to accurately recognize a change in the speed of the forward vehicle and take proper action and uses a sensor for a front or rear distance to make the brake lamp slowly flicker, thereby giving a caution signal to the driver at the following vehicle when a distance between vehicles decreases to no more than a given level relative to a speed. The brake lamp of the present invention comprises: a sensor unit for sensing a change in the pressure and speed, wherein changes in the pressure applied to the brake pedal and speed of a vehicle are sensed; a sensor unit for sensing the distance between the vehicle and a forward vehicle or a following vehicle; a control unit for issuing a command for operating a brake lamp in accordance with the signals received from each sensor unit; and a brake lamp whose color, light position, and brightness change in accordance with the command. In accordance with the present invention, when there is a risk of collision with a following vehicle due to rapid deceleration, a warning signal from a forward vehicle collision avoidance system is used to make the brake lamp rapidly flicker, thereby sending a warning signal to the following vehicle's driver.

    본 발명은 자동차의 제동등 및 제어방법에 관한 것으로, 브레이크 페달의 압력과 차량의 속도 변화량에 따라 제동등의 색상과 점등 위치가 바뀌고 밝기가 점진적으로 증가하거나 급속 점멸하도록 제어함으로써 후행하는 차량의 운전자가 전방 차량의 속도변화를 정확하게 인식하여 적절하게 대응하도록 하고, 전후방 거리센서를 이용하여 차간 거리가 속도 대비 일정수준 이하로 감소할 때에는 운전자자 브레이크를 밝지 않더라도 제동등을 완속 점멸함으로써 후방차량의 운전자에게 주의 경고를 주기 위한 것이다. 여기에는 브레이크 페달의 압력변화와 차량의 속도변화를 감지하는 압력 및 속도 변화를 감지하는 센서부, 전후방 차량과의 거리를 감지하는 센서부, 각 센서부에서 받은 신호에 따라 제동등의 작동을 명령하는 제어부, 그 명령에 따라 색상과 점등위치 및 밝기가 변하는 제동등으로 구성되며, 급격한 감속으로 인해 후방 차량과의 충돌 위험이 있는 경우 제동등을 급속점멸함으로써 경고신호를 보내기 위해 전방차량 충돌방지 시스템으로부터의 경고신호를 이용한다.
