Disclosed are an apparatus for starting an engine of a mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHSG), to support start stably in an MHEV including a gasoline particulate filter (GPF), and a method thereof. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the apparatus for starting an engine of an MHEV comprises: the engine; a MHSG starting the engine or performing generation by the output of the engine; a starter to start the engine; the GPF capturing soot and particulate materials included in exhaust gas of the engine; a state of charge (SOC) sensor detecting an SOC of high-voltage and low-voltage batteries; a GPF back pressure sensor detecting a pressure difference between the front and rear ends of the GPF; and a controller entering a cooperative control mode to simultaneously operate the MHSG and the starter to start the engine when the detected pressure difference between the front and rear ends of the GPF exceeds a set first reference value and the detected SOC of the high-voltage battery (50) exceeds a set second reference value.

    마일드 하이브리드 차량의 엔진 시동 장치 및 방법이 개시된다. 본 발명의 실시 예에 따른, 마일드 하이브리드 차량의 엔진 시동 장치는, 엔진, 상기 엔진을 시동하거나 상기 엔진의 출력에 의해 발전하는 MHSG, 상기 엔진을 시동킬 수 있는 스타터, 상기 엔진의 배기가스에 포함된 수트와 입자상 물질을 포집하는 GPF, 고전압 배터리와 저전압 배터리의 SOC를 검출하는 SOC 센서, 상기 GPF의 전후단 압력 차이를 검출하는 GPF 배압 센서 및 검출된 상기 GPF의 전후단 압력 차이가 설정된 제1 기준치를 초과하고 상기 고전압 배터리(50)의 SOC가 설정된 제2 기준치를 초과하면 협조 제어 모드로 진입하여 상기 MHSG와 스타터를 동시에 구동하여 상기 엔진을 시동 시키는 제어기를 포함한다.
