The present invention provides an apparatus for activating a pedestrian detection and collision mitigation system (PDCMS) of a vehicle, capable of recognizing a pedestrian by allowing a front detection sensor to integrate sensing results from different types of sensors. The apparatus includes: a front detection sensor detecting a presence of a pedestrian on a driving lane of the vehicle and a distance and a relative speed between the pedestrian and the vehicle; a vehicle sensor detecting a speed of the vehicle; an electronic control unit activating a PDCMS function based on information detected by the front detection sensor and the vehicle sensor; and a warning unit operating to inform a driver of a collision of the pedestrian with the vehicle by a control of the electronic control unit. The front detection sensor includes: a radar sensor detecting the pedestrian on the driving lane of the vehicle using a radio wave reflected from the pedestrian to generate radar detection information; a far-infrared camera sensor imaging heat radiated from the pedestrian to generate far-infrared recognition information; and an information integration processor integrating the radar detection information and the far-infrared recognition information. The PDCMS function includes an activation of an operation of the warning unit and an activation of an operation of a brake regardless of whether the driver operates the brake.

    본 발명은 자동차의 주행 차선 상 보행자의 존재, 보행자의 자동차에 대한 거리 및 상대 속도를 감지하는 전방 감지 센서, 자동차의 속도를 감지하는 차량 센서, 전방 감지 센서와 차량 센서에서 감지한 정보를 기반으로 PDCMS(Pedestrian Detection and Collision Mitigation System) 기능을 작동하는 전자 제어 유닛, 및 전자 제어 유닛의 제어에 의하여 운전자에게 자동차와 보행자의 충돌을 알리도록 작동하는 경보부를 포함하고, 전방 감지 센서는, 보행자로부터 반사되는 전파를 이용해 자동차의 주행 차선 상 보행자를 탐지하여 레이더 탐지정보를 생성하는 레이더 센서, 보행자가 방사하는 열을 영상화하여 원적외선 인식정보를 생성하는 원적외선 카메라 센서, 및 레이더 탐지정보 및 원적외선 인식정보를 융합하는 정보융합부를 포함하며, PDCMS 기능은 경보부의 작동 및 브레이크 작동을 포함하고, 브레이크 작동은 자동차의 운전자가 이미 브레이크 작동을 수동으로 하고 있는지 여부에 관계 없이 수행되는 것을 특징으로 하는 자동차의 PDCMS 작동 장치를 제공한다.
