The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for recognizing a drive environment of an autonomous vehicle, allowing each different method to fuse an image sensor and a distance sensor depending on the degree of precision of global positioning system (GPS) information and map information, thereby recognizing an accurate drive environment and handling a situation according to the recognized drive environment. The apparatus for recognizing the drive environment of the autonomous vehicle comprises: a satellite navigation receiver; a map storing part; the image sensor; the distance sensor; and a control part. The satellite navigation receiver receives a satellite signal from a satellite. The map storing part stores the map data. The image sensor photographs images of the surroundings of a vehicle. The distance sensor senses an object located within the surroundings of the vehicle. The control part determines a method to fuse information measured by the image sensor and the distance sensor depending on the reception state of the satellite navigation receiver and the degree of precision of the map data to recognize the drive environment.

    본 발명은 GPS(global positioning system) 정보와 지도 정보의 정밀도에 따라 영상 센서 및 거리 센서의 융합 방법을 달리하여 정확한 주행환경을 인식하고 그에 따른 상황 대처가 가능하게 하는 자율주행차량의 주행환경 인식장치 및 방법에 관한 것으로, 위성으로부터 위성신호를 수신하는 위성항법수신기와, 지도데이터가 저장된 지도저장부와, 차량의 주변영상을 촬영하는 영상센서와, 상기 차량의 주변에 위치하는 객체를 감지하는 거리센서와, 상기 위성항법수신기의 수신상태 및 지도데이터의 정밀도에 따라 상기 영상센서와 거리센서에 의해 측정된 정보의 융합방법을 결정하여 주행환경을 인식하는 제어부를 포함한다.
