The present invention relates to a system and a method for positioning a train in an exact position by using image information of image tags which includes unique image regions at each location and is installed at regular intervals at stopping positions of trains through an image information receiving unit provided at the front end of the train. The system includes: an image information receiving unit which is provided at the front end of the train for receiving image information and image tags which include specific image information at each location and are installed at stopping positions of trains at regular intervals; an image converting unit which converts images received by the image information receiving unit for better readability; an image interpreting unit which extracts image regions from the images converted by the image converting unit; a train-stopping braking unit which brakes the train until the speed corresponds to the image regions extracted by the image interpreting unit; and a train control unit comprising a control unit which controls the system to convert and interpret the images received from the image information receiving unit, to produce a speed profile by receiving, from a database, the speed corresponding to the image region, to control the stopping of the train by transmitting a braking signal according to the produced speed profile to the train-stopping braking unit, or to continuously induce the stopping of the train in the exact position by comparing a predicted stopping speed according to the speed profile and an actual stopping speed.
