The present invention relates to a method and a system for selecting a forward collision vehicle, which acquires a front image using a camera installed in front of a vehicle, recognizing lane information and vehicle information in the acquired front image to be converted to distance coordinate system information with own vehicle with respect to the vehicle information, and selecting a forward collision potential vehicle based on a vehicle process lane by converting the lane information to actual coordinate system information. According to the present invention, a system for selecting a forward collision vehicle comprises: an image acquisition unit acquiring a front image by photographing the front of a vehicle; an image recognition unit recognizing lane information and vehicle information from the acquired front image; a position determination unit perceiving a position of a lane and a vehicle based on the lane information and the vehicle information; a control unit determining whether a collision risk vehicle exists on a vehicle process lane in accordance with the position of a lane and a vehicle which is recognized through the position determination unit; and a warning output unit outputting presence or absence of a collision risk vehicle on the vehicle process lane with sound, or displaying on a screen.
