The present invention relates to a navigation system providing information about a destination, allowing a user to easily recognize the information. The present invention provides a landmark-based smart navigation system comprising: a provided distance setting unit which sets a reference distance to provide landmark-based route information; a remaining distance recognizing unit which calculates the remaining distance to a location where a next driving behavior is necessary by using current location information, and compares the remaining distance with the reference distance; a landmark information extracting unit which extracts landmark information corresponding to the location where the next driving behavior is necessary when the remaining distance is smaller than the reference distance; and a landmark information generating unit which changes the landmark information into a form which can be easily recognized by a driver.
