A method for charging a hybrid electric vehicle according to the present invention includes: a first step of determining whether the hybrid electric vehicle is traveling at a constant speed equal to or higher than a preset speed; a second step of charging a battery using electricity produced in a first thermoelectric element by opening a first exhaust gas branch pipe when the vehicle travels at the high and constant speed; a third step of comparing the temperature of exhaust gas with the temperature of a supplied coolant; a fourth step of charging the battery using electricity produced in a second thermoelectric element by opening a second exhaust gas branch pipe and the supplied coolant branch pipe when the temperature of the exhaust gas is higher than the temperature of the supplied coolant in the third step; a fifth step of comparing the external air temperature with the return coolant temperature; and a sixth step of charging the battery using electricity produced in a third thermoelectric element by opening a return coolant branch pipe when the external air temperature is lower than the return coolant temperature in the fifth step. Accordingly, the battery is charged by selectively using heat of the exhaust gas or heat of the coolant according to traveling conditions of the vehicle, so the flow obstruction of the exhaust gas or the coolant is minimized.

    본 발명에 의한 하이브리드 전기자동차 충전방법은, 하이브리드 전기자동차가 사전에 설정된 속도 이상의 고속으로 정속주행을 하는지의 여부를 판단하는 제1 단계; 차량이 고속 정속주행을 하면 상기 제1 배기가스 분기관을 개방시켜, 상기 제1 열전소자에서 생산된 전기로 배터리를 충전하는 제2 단계; 배기가스 온도와 공급냉각수 온도를 비교하는 제3 단계; 상기 제3 단계에서 배기가스 온도가 공급냉각수 온도보다 높으면 상기 제2 배기가스 분기관과 상기 공급냉각수 분기관을 개방시켜, 상기 제2 열전소자에서 생산된 전기로 상기 배터리를 충전하는 제4 단계; 외기 온도와 리턴냉각수 온도를 비교하는 제5 단계; 상기 제5 단계에서 외기 온도가 리턴냉각수 온도보다 낮으면 상기 리턴냉각수 분기관을 개방시켜, 상기 제3 열전소자에서 생산된 전기로 상기 배터리를 충전하는 제6 단계;를 포함하여 구성된다.
