본 발명은 하나 이상의 주변 차량을 이용하여 가상으로 대상 타켓을 선정하고 제어함으로써 운전자가 이질감과 거부감을 최소화 하여 일반운전과 유사한 패턴의 자동 주행을 수행할 수 있도록 하는 스마트 크루즈 제어 장치와 방법에 관한 것으로, 스마트 크루즈 컨트롤 주행 시 인접차량 끼어들기의 경우 기존대비 갑작스런 차간거리 변화에 따른 감가속도 발생량을 2배까지 저감시켜 운전자 승차감을 향상시킬 수 있도록 하는 효과가 있다. 또한 전방 교통 상황을 고려한 스마트 크루즈 컨트롤 주행을 통해 운전자 거부감 및 이질감을 감소시켜 안정성을 향상시켜 주행 중 불안감을 느끼지 않도록 하는 효과가 있다.

    PURPOSE: A smart cruise control device and a method are provided to virtually determine at least one peripheral vehicle as a target, and to control the target in order to minimize the sense of difference and the sense of resistance for a driver, thereby implementing autonomous driving of which the pattern is similar to general driving. CONSTITUTION: A smart cruise control method comprises: a first step of detecting whether or not the approach motion of a peripheral target in the direction of a subject vehicle exists; a second step of determining a smart cruise control target using target information outputted from a first target determining part when the approach motion of the peripheral target does not exist; and a third step of determining the smart cruise control target using target information outputted from a second target determining part when the approach motion of the peripheral target exists. In the second step, the closest target in the direction of the subject vehicle is determined as the smart cruise control target only using a curvature radius and a front target position. In the third step, the approaching probabilities of targets approaching in the direction of the subject vehicle are digitized, and then the closest target of which the approaching probability is more than a certain value among the targets is determined as a candidate target. A smart cruise control device comprises the first target determining part, the second target determining part, and a condition based target determining part. The first target determining part determines the target based on the direction of the subject vehicle. The second target determining part determines the candidate target based on the motional analysis of the target. The condition based target determining part determines the target using either of the first target determining part or the second target determining part depending on whether or not the approach motion of the peripheral target exists.
