The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling the mode conversion of a hybrid vehicle, which further rapidly controls the driving mode conversion of the hybrid vehicle having a dual clutch mounted thereon by slipping a transmission clutch of the hybrid vehicle, thereby improving responsibility. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for controlling the mode conversion of a hybrid vehicle including a motor selectively connected to the transmission through a second clutch, and an engine selectively connected to the motor through a first clutch, comprises: a step of determining whether an electric vehicle (EV) mode needs to be converted into a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) mode; a step of comparing motor usable torque with cranking requiring torque when the EV mode needs to be converted into the HEV mode; a step of slipping a second clutch when the motor′s usable torque is larger than the cranking required torque; a step of increasing an engine speed by using motor starting torque generated by slipping the second clutch; and a step of coupling the engine clutch when the engine speed and the motor speed are increased.
