    This energy regeneration system is equipped with a battery, multiple capacitors, a power source, and a control unit. The battery and the capacitors are connected in series, and the multiple capacitors are connected in parallel. The control unit performs control so as to switch the connection of the multiple capacitors connected in parallel, and alternately repeats the charging/discharging of regenerative energy generated by the power source, and performs control so as to store in the battery the power stored in the multiple capacitors, during the period in which the regenerative energy is being generated and during the period in which the power source is stopped. The total capacitance of the multiple capacitors is a capacitance that is capable of storing all of the regenerative energy obtained by the maximum assumed deceleration of the power source during the period in which the regenerative energy is being generated. The multiple capacitor are lithium ion capacitors.
