The processing unit is connected to each object sensor and each buffering body formation device, and predicts a collision between a vehicle and the external object based on inputs from the object sensors. When predicting the collision, the processing unit predicts the direction or location of the collision, and causes the buffering body formation device corresponding to the direction or location of the collision to form a buffering body to reduce the influence of the collision on an occupant with the buffering body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
