To provide a contact seal which prevents friction torque from increasing even in a long term use and keeps its sealing performance intact.SOLUTION: A contact seal 1 includes a seal lip part S made of an elastic material, and a sliding-contact face Q at a lip tip of the seal lip part S slides relative to a mating member B. The elastic material has particulates P mixed in it. When the slide-contact face Q slides with the mating member B, the particulates P are exposed on a back surface. Since the particulates P are of a material that are not chemically bonded with a rubber material, the particulates easily fall from the sliding-contact face Q and a large number of recesses C are thereby formed in the sliding-contact face Q. The particulates Q are continuously exposed and fall even when the recesses C have become smaller due to wear of the sliding-contact face Q, so that a large number of minute recesses C appear on the sliding-contact face Q successively without interruption. Since lubricants can be held in the recesses C which appear on the sliding-contact face Q, a state with a proper oil film thickness kept can be maintained.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
