To provide a rolling bearing unit for supporting a wheel capable of reducing creeping and fretting wear even when a pair of small diameter parts is recessed at both ends in an axial direction on an outer peripheral surface of an outer ring.SOLUTION: A rolling bearing unit for supporting a wheel has: an outer ring having a double-row outer ring raceway surface on an inner peripheral surface; a pair of inner rings each having an inner ring raceway surface on an outer peripheral surface; and a plurality of conical rollers rotatably provided between the double-row outer ring raceway surface and a double-row inner ring raceway surface. A pair of small diameter parts is recessed at both ends in an axial direction on an outer peripheral surface of the outer ring. The pair of small diameter parts is provided on both end sides in the axial direction with respect to a pair of first virtual lines passing through the largest diameter part of a contact surface between the peripheral surface of the plurality of conical rollers and the double-row outer ring raceway surface and each having an intersection angle of 135° with respect to the outer ring raceway surface.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】外輪外周面の軸方向両端に一対の小径部を凹設した場合であっても、クリープやフレッチング摩耗を軽減することが可能な車輪支持用転がり軸受ユニットを提供する。【解決手段】車輪支持用転がり軸受ユニットは、内周面に複列の外輪軌道面を有する外輪と、外周面に内輪軌道面をそれぞれ有する一対の内輪と、複列の外輪軌道面と複列の内輪軌道面との間に転動自在に設けられた複数の円すいころと、を有する。外輪の外周面の軸方向両端には、一対の小径部が凹設される。複数の円すいころの周面と複列の外輪軌道面との接触面のうち最大径部を通り、それぞれ外輪軌道面に対して135°の交角を持つ一対の第一仮想線よりも、軸方向両端側に、一対の小径部が設けられる。【選択図】図1
