To provide proximity sensing systems and their control.SOLUTION: A controller comprises: input means for receiving a trajectory parameter signal comprising one or more parameters indicative of a trajectory 38 of a vehicle 30; and processing means arranged to set, based on the one or more parameters, a distance from a trajectory of an alert zone boundary 40, 44. The processing means is configured to determine the minimum distance from the trajectory 38 of the alert zone boundary 40, 44; at or below the minimum distance, cause a detected object to trigger an alert; and adjust the distance continuously for at least one range of trajectory adjustments as indicated by the one or more parameters.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2b
