To provide a technique to allow a travel unit to stably ride on a step on the road surface.SOLUTION: A travel unit comprises: an acquisition section that acquires a map of the periphery of the travel unit; an estimation section that estimates the position of the travel unit on the map; a detection section that detects a step on the road surface on which the travel unit travels; and an addition section that, based on the position of the travel unit on the map when the detection section detects the step, generates step information on the step on the map, and adds the step information to the map.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
