To provide an improved underwater propulsion unit which provides a solution to conflicting goals of cooling and flow optimization, and of cost savings.SOLUTION: The present invention preferably relates to an underwater propulsion unit (10) for an outboard engine or a pod drive, and comprises a plastic housing (1) designed to allow water to flow around and a metal housing (2) in which an electric driving unit (3) is housed. The electric driving unit (3) is housed to be sealed in the metal housing (2) in a water-tight state, and the metal housing (2) is arranged inside the plastic housing (1).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
