To provide a steer-by-wire type steering device that is configured so that when a direction of a turning part reaches a stroke end, a braking state and a releasing state of an electromagnetic brake is switched to enable a driver to surely sense the situation where the direction reaches the end through a steering wheel, and the electromagnetic brake is avoided from enlarging in size to suppress collision noise generated in the electromagnetic brake.SOLUTION: The steer-by-wire type steering device comprises: a retainer 25 arranged to be movable in a circumferential direction between an engagement position, where the retainer engages an engagement element 24, arranged between a shaft 4 and an inner periphery of an outer ring 21 of a steering wheel 1, with the shaft 4 and the inner periphery of the outer ring 21 while holding the engagement element, and a releasing position where the retainer releases the engagement; a centering spring 26 fixed to the shaft 4 and the retainer 25 not to turn; an electromagnetic brake 27 that is switched between a state where the brake brakes the retainer 25 in response to movement in an axial direction of an armature 51 with respect to a friction surface part 52 and a state where the brakes releases the braking; and a shock absorbing member 63 that relaxes a collision between the friction surface part 52 and the armature 51.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
