To provide a heavy duty pneumatic tire 2 that can achieve suppression of mass increase and suppression of shape change due to running.SOLUTION: A tire 2 comprises a reinforcing layer 20 and a buffer layer 22. The reinforcing layer 20 comprises a belt 40 and a band 42. The belt 40 comprises a first belt ply 44A, a second belt play 44B and a third belt ply 44C. A direction in which belt cords 48 included in the first belt play 44A are tilted is opposite to a direction in which the belt cords 48 included in the second blet ply 44B are tilted. The band 42 comprises a full band 46 located between the first belt ply 44A and the second belt ply 44B. An end 46e of the full band 46 is located outward of a shoulder circumferential groove 30s in an axial direction. The buffer layer 22 is formed from crosslinked rubber. A ratio of a width in the axial direction of the buffer layer 22 to a width in the axial direction of the first belt ply 44A is 50% or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
