To provide a cold recovery system capable of suppressing clogging of a heat exchanger at start of the cold recovery system, and a starting method for the cold recovery system.SOLUTION: A cold recovery system includes: a first heat exchanger configured to transfer cold energy from liquefied gas to a cold heating medium; a cold recovery cycle including a cold pump provided downstream of the first heat exchanger to transfer the cold heating medium; a first gas liquid separator provided between the first heat exchanger and the cold pump in the cold recovery cycle and configured to separate the cold heating medium into a gas phase and a liquid phase; a pump bypass line for extracting the gas phase cold heating medium from the first gas liquid separator and guiding the gas phase cold heating medium to a portion downstream of the cold pump and upstream of the first heat exchanger in the cold recovery cycle; and air blowing means for sending the gas phase cold heating medium to the first heat exchanger via the pump bypass line.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
