To prevent an internal combustion engine from being operated in a state where an exhaust purification catalyst cannot exhibit its capacity sufficiently, while suppressing current leakage.SOLUTION: A controller 100 is applied to an internal combustion engine in which an electrically heated catalyst 210 heated by supplying power is installed in an exhaust passage. Prior to starting the internal combustion engine, the controller 100 controls a power supply device 220 to supply power to the electrically heated catalyst 210 to perform a preheating process of warming up a first exhaust purification catalyst 26. When an insulation resistance of the electrically heated catalyst 210 when starting the preheating process is less than a threshold, a voltage supplied to the electrically heated catalyst 210 is lowered to perform the preheating process.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

    【課題】漏電を抑制しつつ、排気浄化触媒が十分な能力を発揮できない状態で内燃機関を運転させることを抑制する。【解決手段】制御装置100は、電力を供給することで加熱される電気加熱式触媒210が排気通路に設置されている内燃機関に適用される。制御装置100は、内燃機関の始動に先立って電源装置220を制御して電気加熱式触媒210に電力を供給し、第1排気浄化触媒26を暖機するプレヒート処理を実行する。プレヒート処理を開始するときの電気加熱式触媒210の絶縁抵抗が閾値未満である場合には、電気加熱式触媒210に供給する電圧を低くしてプレヒート処理を実行する。【選択図】図2
