To control an electric marine propulsion system configured to propel a marine vessel.SOLUTION: A method of controlling an electric marine propulsion system includes: measuring at least one parameter of an electric motor in the electric marine propulsion system; and determining that a parameter measurement value indicates an abnormality in the electric marine propulsion system. Then, the method determines a reduced operation limit including at least one of a torque limit, an RPM limit, a current limit, and a power limit on the basis of at least one parameter measurement value. Then, the method controls the electric motor so as not to go beyond the reduced operation limit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
