To continuously and stably detect a traveling speed.SOLUTION: A power assisted system employed in a power assisted vehicle in accordance with an embodiment includes an electric motor that generates an assist force that assists the human power of an occupant of the power assisted vehicle, a rotation sensor that outputs a signal dependent on the rotation of a rotary component which rotates to allow the power assisted vehicle to travel, an acceleration sensor that outputs a signal dependent on an acceleration in an advancing direction of the power assisted vehicle, and a controller that uses the output signal of the rotation sensor and the output signal of the acceleration sensor to compute a traveling speed of the power assisted vehicle. The controller uses both the output signal of the rotation sensor and the output signal of the acceleration sensor to compute the traveling speed under a first condition, and uses the output signal of the acceleration sensor to compute the traveling speed under a second condition.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
