To provide an internal combustion engine misfire detection device capable of curbing a reduction in accuracy of determining whether or not a misfire occurs even when rotation behavior of a crank shaft is in an unstable state.SOLUTION: When determining that relative scale of a rotation variation ΔT30[0] related to a cylinder subject to determination with respect to the rotation variation ΔT30[4] related thereto in a previous combustion cycle is equal to or larger than a determination value Δth (Yes in S44), a CPU determines an occurrence of a misfire. However, when determining that a catalyst heating process is in execution (Yes in S58), the CPU obtains the relative size of the rotation variation ΔT30[0] by comparing the same with an average ΔT30ave[0] of 5 smallest rotation variations among those ΔT30[4] to ΔT30[40] in previous 10 combustion cycles (S66).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】クランク軸の回転挙動が不安定な状況にあっても、失火の有無の判定精度が低下することを抑制できるようにした内燃機関の失火検出装置を提供する。【解決手段】CPUは、判定対象となる気筒に関する回転変動量ΔT30[0]の、1燃焼サイクル前の回転変動量ΔT30[4]に対する相対的な大きさが判定値Δth以上と判定する場合(S44:YES)、失火と判定する。ただし、CPUは、触媒暖機処理の実行中であると判定する場合(S58:YES)、回転変動量ΔT30[0]との相対的な大きさの比較対象を、過去10燃焼サイクル分の回転変動量ΔT30[4]~ΔT30[40]のうちの小さいもの5個の平均値ΔT30ave[0]とする(S66)。【選択図】図3
