To provide a hydrogenated random copolymer which has excellent productivity and processability, and moreover when, for example, made into a tire tread, has excellent abrasion resistance.SOLUTION: A method for producing a hydrogenated random copolymer comprises: a polymerization step of polymerizing an aromatic vinyl compound and a conjugated diene compound to obtain a polymer; and a hydrogenation reaction step of performing a hydrogenation reaction by adding hydrogen to the obtained polymer to obtain a hydrogenated random copolymer. In the hydrogenation reaction step, Mooney stress relaxation at 100°C of the obtained hydrogenated random copolymer is adjusted to 0.85 or more to less than 1.05 relative to Mooney stress relaxation at 100°C of the polymer before hydrogenation and, in the hydrogenation reaction step, Mooney viscosity at 100°C of the obtained hydrogenated random copolymer is adjusted to 80 to 200.SELECTED DRAWING: None
