To provide fuel theft detection method and a fuel theft detection device which can detect theft precisely.SOLUTION: A fuel gauge 10 detects residual quantity of fuel by using a residual sensor 11 every 100 ms and sequentially calculates average values of residual quantity detected this time and residual quantity detected until pre-prescribed frequency. In addition, the fuel gauge 10 sequentially modifies an average value calculated before so that difference becomes a prescribed value if difference of an average value calculated this time and the average value calculated before is greater than the prescribed value. A server device 40 sequentially calculates the difference subtracting an average value of formerly calculated post-modification of post-modification from an average value calculated this time of post-modification and sequentially calculates integrated values of difference calculated this time and difference calculated until pre-constant period (t-s).
