To provide an underwater observation device and an underwater observation method capable of observing underwater for a long time with a low risk and over a wide area only by controlling a thrust without performing an advanced control such as self-position estimation, trajectory planning, and position control.SOLUTION: An underwater observation device comprises an underwater propulsion device (CUV) 3 to collect information from an observation sensor 3b while propelling underwater, a base station 2 fixed to and erected on a water bottom, and including electric power supply means to supply the electric power for driving the CUV 3, and an electric power cable 4 to connect the CUV 3 and the electric power supply means. The electric power cable 4 is wound or unwound on a drum-type reel 5 installed on the base station 2 according to the propulsion direction of the CUV 3. The CUV 3 generates a propulsion in the centrifugal direction of a circle around a central axis 5a of the drum-type reel 5 and also generates the propulsion in tangential direction of the circle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】自己位置推定、軌道計画、位置制御といった高度な制御を行うことなく、推力の制御だけで低リスク且つ広範囲に渡り水中を長期間観測することを可能とする水中観測装置及び水中観測方法を提供する。【解決手段】水中を推進しながら観測用センサ3bからの情報を収集する水中推進装置(CUV)3と、水底に固定して立設され、CUV3が駆動するための電力を供給する電力供給手段を含む基地局2と、CUV3と電力供給手段とを連結する電力ケーブル4とを備え、CUV3の推進方向に応じて基地局2に配設されたドラム型リール5に電力ケーブル4が巻き付き又は巻き出しされるものである。また、CUV3がドラム型リール5の中心軸5aを中心とした円の遠心力方向に推進を発生すると共に、円の接線方向に推進を発生するものである。【選択図】図1
